wishlist

wishlist

A very heavily Zara wishlist this week! How can you resist their A/W lookbook that has that so effortlessly grunge look? Above are a few pieces I bought when I did a shopping haul last week. The Topshop cotton shirt is a great classic piece for layering and is a casual alternative to smart shirts for more formal situations. I love the chunky chain necklaces that are popping up now, I bought mine from Zara at £16 but they have an identical one in Topshop for £12.50, which I later found! The jacket is due to stay on the lust list for a while as it is on the expensive end of the spectrum. Sympathy for the student, please.

Up in the woods

Dress - Urban Outfitters

I thought I would share some photos with you from a shoot I did the other day with the wonderfully talented miss Edmonds. These photos were taken in around a woods nearby. I know I should really appreciate living in the country before the next few years of University city hopping. The full set and more amazing photos are on Taylor Edmonds' Flickr

Off with a bang

Some might say I have a slight obsession with the Great British Bake Off. Good news for those who, like me, can't say no to a bit of Hollywood to hear that its back on our televisions soon! Above is a white chocolate and strawberry cake and a classic Victoria sponge lifted straight from the GBBO 'How To Bake' cookbook, made for a family party.

To make the white chocolate strawberry cake you will need:
200g white chocolate
200g unsalted butter

3 large eggs
150g caster sugar
grated zest of half an orange
200g self-raising flour
a lot of strawberries (around 400g)
200ml double or whipping cream (I used whipping)

2 x 20.5cm greased and lined sandwich cake tins
(and quite a bit of patience!)

Firstly preheat your oven to 180°C. Meanwhile, melt the chocolate over a pot of boiling water. When thoroughly melted, add the butter and stir until smooth. In a separate large bowl whisk the eggs until frothy, then add the sugar and orange zest. Whisk on a high speed until the mixture is very thick and mousse-like. Add the chocolate/butter mixture and stir until just combined. Sift the flour into the bowl and gently fold in. Evenly spread the mixture between the two lined cake tins and cook for 20-25 minutes.

When the cakes have cooled it is time to layer the hulled and halved strawberries so that they cover the entire cake. The juice of the remainder of the orange can be mixed with a tablespoon of caster sugar to form a syrup to drizzle over the strawberries at this point. Once you have whipped the cream, this too can be added on top of the strawberries, and sandwiched with the other half of your cake. Spread the rest of the cream on top, and decorate with strawberries. I also added a sprinkling of grated white chocolate over this.
Enjoy!

Prologue

Cami, Dungarees - Topshop, Elephant necklace - Urban Outfitters

Well, hello! Here's a little introduction to Ramona Blues - and some more about me. As an avid blog reader for as long as I can remember it only seemed right that I should, eventually, jump on the bandwagon. Then came the second, most difficult decision of what to call it. A name is integral to identity and representation, which led me to ask the question 'what is in a name?' - a question first posed after reading an article in Oh Comely. I decided on this pseudonym - Ramona Blues - after attending an interview at which 3 out of 5 candidates were called Sophie. In industries such as fashion and journalism, a stand-out point is key, and so I decided that 'Sophie Rae Johnson' just wasn't going to cut it (sorry, mum) and so Ramona Blues came about - a blog for fashion, baking and sharing the everyday.
